Irrigation channels
Channels bring river water across the oasis and run beside roads and fields. They create a network of fine parallel lines across the map.

Tuwaite Map Poster & Print
Tuwaite lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, in far western China, on the southern rim of the Tarim Basin. Here the Taklamakan Desert meets the rivers that flow down from the Kunlun Mountains, and settlement depends on irrigation. Tuwaite is one of the oasis communities that line this belt of cultivated land.
From above, an oasis like this looks very different from a city grid. Straight roads, often lined with rows of poplars, divide the land into rectangular plots of fields and orchards, and irrigation channels run beside them. Village houses string out along the roads. At the edge of the watered land, the pattern stops abruptly and the desert takes over.
A Tuwaite map poster makes that contrast its subject: a dense, finely divided oasis against the emptiness of sand. The regular lines of roads and channels read almost like a textile. It's a distinctive map for anyone with ties to Hotan and the southern Silk Road region.

Tree-lined roads
Straight roads, often lined with rows of trees, divide the land into regular blocks and give the oasis its clear geometric framework.
Desert edge
Where irrigation ends, the cultivated pattern stops sharply and open desert begins. On the poster this makes a strong, clean border.

Zakaj Tuwaite
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
An oasis map has an unusual graphic strength: a detailed pattern of fields set against empty space. It suits people from the Hotan area and anyone drawn to the geography of the Silk Road.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand echoes the desert around the oasis.
