Uychi lies in Namangan Region in eastern Uzbekistan, in the northern part of the Fergana Valley. The valley floor is flat and densely farmed, and from above the town shows a mix of straight Soviet-era streets and older neighbourhoods of low houses and walled courtyards, the mahallas, where lanes narrow and bend between gardens.
Water shapes everything here. Irrigation canals and ditches run through and around the town, feeding cotton fields, orchards and vineyards in a pattern of long, narrow plots. On a map these channels appear as fine lines laid parallel to one another or following the gentle slope of the land, giving the countryside around Uychi a structured, almost textile quality.
