Branching lanes
Narrow residential lanes split off the main roads in irregular, tree-like patterns and follow old plot lines rather than a grid. In black and white this makes a dense, intricate texture.

Vazhakkala Map Poster & Print
Vazhakkala lies in the eastern suburbs of Kochi, in Ernakulam district. Over the past few decades the city has spread inland from its historic waterfront, and Vazhakkala is part of that growth. On a map it looks like a dense patch of residential lanes, many ending in cul-de-sacs, organised around a few busier roads that carry traffic between central Ernakulam and the newer districts further east.
The streets here don't follow a plan. They trace old field boundaries and property lines, so the network looks branching, almost like a leaf's veins, rather than a grid. Between the built-up blocks there are small patches of low ground and water that recall the wetland this part of Kerala once was. The backwaters and canals of the Kochi region are never far off.
A Vazhakkala map poster records a neighbourhood that has changed quickly, with fine detail at street level. It is a very personal choice, the kind of map someone hangs because they live here, grew up here or moved away from here. It shows the exact turns home, not a postcard view of Kochi.

Connecting roads
A few broader roads cross the area and link central Ernakulam with Kochi's eastern growth areas. They give the poster its main lines of direction.
Traces of water
Small bodies of water and low ground between the blocks are reminders of the wetland setting that shapes much of the Kochi region.

Zakaj Vazhakkala
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Neighbourhood maps work best when they are specific, and Vazhakkala is exactly that: the lanes you walk, the junction you wait at, the way home. As a gift for someone who has left Kerala, it carries more weight than a skyline.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a family name or a moving-in date, and keep or edit the coordinates line. Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand each give the dense lanes a different character.
