Valley-bound streets
The main streets run along the valley rather than across it, so the town reads as a long, narrow shape that follows the lie of the land instead of spreading outward.

Waina Map Poster & Print
Waina sits in the far south of Gansu, where the province's dry northern plateaus give way to folded, wooded mountains. The town is small and densely built. On a map its shape is set almost entirely by the land: buildings and roads keep to the flatter ground of a valley, and the outlines of the surrounding slopes are left open around them.
From above, the street pattern reads as a series of lines running roughly parallel to the watercourse, crossed by short connecting lanes where the valley allows. There is no broad grid here and no ring road, only the practical layout of a place that has had to fit itself between hillsides. A few longer routes lead out along the valley toward neighbouring settlements.
A Waina map poster works because of this restraint. With so little space to spread into, the town forms a clear, readable figure: a dense cluster of short streets, the curve of the valley, and the empty space of the mountains around it. In black and white the result looks less like a street plan and more like a study of how a town settles into terrain.

River corridor
A watercourse runs through the valley and gives the map its strongest single line, with roads and buildings keeping close to its banks on the flatter ground.
Open mountain space
Around the built-up area the map is mostly empty, which frames the town tightly and makes the steep, folded country of southern Gansu part of the composition.

Zakaj Waina
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
People hang a map of Waina because it is where they grew up, where family still lives, or where a long journey through southern Gansu once passed. A small town drawn this cleanly holds a lot of memory in very few lines, and it rarely appears on anyone else's wall.
The poster can carry your own title, a subtitle such as a year or a family name, and a coordinates line. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and order either the $9 digital HD files or a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
