Wiener Neustadt Map Poster & Print
Wiener Neustadt lies on the flat Steinfeld plain in Lower Austria, about fifty kilometres south of Vienna. It was founded in 1194 by the Babenberg duke Leopold V as a fortified new town. Tradition holds that the building was paid for with part of the ransom for Richard the Lionheart. Its planned origins still show clearly on the map.
The old town is an almost square block of straight streets meeting at a central main square. It is surrounded by roads that follow the former walls. In one corner stands the castle that has housed the Theresian Military Academy since the eighteenth century. The Wiener Neustädter Kanal, built to carry goods towards Vienna, runs north from the town.
A Wiener Neustadt map poster shows one of the clearest medieval town plans in Central Europe. The square grid of the old town sits at the centre, rail lines and later districts spread across the level plain, and the canal cuts a thin straight line across the frame. It is an unusually orderly picture of a very old place.

Zakaj Wiener Neustadt
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Wiener Neustadt is a hometown for many, and a formative place for generations of officers trained at the academy. The map's clear geometry suits an office wall as well as a hallway, and it holds a lot of history in a single frame.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a graduating year or a family name. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The $9 digital files include all six sizes as 300 DPI PNGs and print-ready PDFs.
