Open plain
The surrounding land is flat and wide, so the map is dominated by open space, with roads and tracks drawn as fine lines across an uncluttered background.

Winejok Map Poster & Print
Winejok lies in Northern Bahr al Ghazal, a state in the north-west of South Sudan near the border with Sudan. The land here is flat and open, part of the broad plains that drain toward the Nile basin, and the seasonal rains change the landscape each year. On a map the settlement appears as a loose network of roads and tracks rather than a dense urban core.
Mapping data for this part of South Sudan is still developing, so the picture is simple: main routes, local paths and the outlines of water and open land. That simplicity is part of its character. Instead of grids and ring roads, the map shows how people move across a wide landscape, linking homes and neighbouring communities across the plain.
A Winejok map poster is a rare thing, a printed record of a place that seldom appears in atlases or souvenir shops. In black and white, the sparse lines take on a graphic, almost abstract quality against the open space around them. For families from the area, including those living abroad, it offers a clear and dignified image of home.

Road network
Rather than following a planned grid, routes converge and branch in an organic pattern, showing the connections between the settlement and the communities around it.
Seasonal landscape
In this region the rainy season reshapes the land each year, and where water features are mapped they appear as soft, irregular shapes among the lines of the roads.
