Ring road
The inner ring road forms a near-complete loop around the city centre. It gives the poster a strong focal shape, with streets radiating outward from it.

Wolverhampton Map Poster & Print
Wolverhampton's centre is enclosed by a ring road, and on the map this loop is the first thing the eye finds. It holds a compact core of older streets on higher ground, surrounded by a band of wider roads. Beyond it, terraced streets and suburbs spread in every direction and merge with the Black Country towns to the south and east.
Canals are a defining part of the picture. The Birmingham Canal Navigations pass through the city, and a flight of 21 locks descends north-west towards the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Railways and canals run close together through the old industrial districts. Their parallel lines make the print more intricate than a typical town plan.
Wolverhampton became a city in 2000 and is home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, who play at Molineux close to the centre. A Wolverhampton map poster works for supporters, former students and anyone with roots in the West Midlands. It shows the city's ring road, canals and neighbourhoods drawn cleanly on one sheet.

Several canals cross the city, including the lock flight descending north-west towards Aldersley. Their narrow lines trace a quieter layer beneath the roads.
West Park and East Park
Two Victorian parks open up the dense residential streets. They appear as calm blank shapes among the closely packed terraces on either side of the centre.
