Mountain spine
A continuous ridge runs along the island's length, so the land narrows to a slim band with steep ground falling toward both coasts and leaving little room for roads.

Yapen Island Map Poster & Print
Yapen stretches like a drawn-out stroke across Cenderawasih Bay, off the northern coast of Indonesian Papua. From above it is thin and elongated, with a mountainous spine running almost its whole length and the coast crinkled into small bays and headlands. Roads are few, so on a map the island reads mostly as outline and contour, with settlements strung along the shore rather than gathered inland.
The main town, Serui, sits on the southern coast and gives the island its densest patch of streets, a small cluster of lines against an otherwise open landscape. Beyond it the network thins quickly into coastal tracks and footpaths. Scattered islets lie off both shores, and on a poster they appear as a loose chain of dots that echo the main island's shape.
A Yapen Island map poster is about proportion and restraint: a long body of land, a great deal of water, and a handful of lines where people live. The island's interior is covered in rainforest known for its birdlife, but on paper that becomes quiet white space. The result suits walls where a single strong horizontal form works better than a crowded street plan.

Serui on the coast
The island's main town occupies a stretch of the southern shore, where the few streets on the map gather into a compact cluster beside the water.
Offshore islets
Small islands sit just off Yapen's coasts, breaking up the surrounding bay with scattered outlines that give the composition rhythm and depth.

Zakaj Yapen Island
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Yapen tends to hang on the walls of people with a connection to Papua, whether through family, work or long travel in the region. Its long horizontal form also suits wide spaces above a desk or sofa, where a single calm shape reads better than detail.
You can set your own title and subtitle, perhaps the name of a village or a date that matters, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, depending on whether the room calls for contrast or warmth.
