Yeongdong is the seat of Yeongdong County in North Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It sits in a valley surrounded by forested hills. From above, the flat land is limited, so the town is long and narrow. The river, the Gyeongbu railway line and the main streets all run side by side through the same corridor.
The county is known for grapes and fruit, and local wineries make Yeongdong one of Korea's wine regions. It is also connected with Park Yeon, a scholar and musician of the early Joseon period, and it hosts an annual festival of Korean traditional music, gukak, in his name.
A Yeongdong map poster shows a town shaped by its valley. The dense core follows the river, the railway draws a straight line beside it, and the surrounding hills leave the edges of the frame open.
