Valley town
The built-up area follows the level ground of the valley, so the streets run along its length instead of forming a square grid.

Yujia Map Poster & Print
Yujia is a town in China's Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country of the municipality's northeast. The region is one of steep ridges, winding valleys and small rivers. Settlements grow wherever there is enough level land, so each town takes a shape closely tied to its terrain.
On a map, Yujia appears as a compact cluster of streets set along a valley and its main road, with newer buildings extending along the routes leading out. Around it, the land is divided into small, irregular fields and terraces that follow the contours. Narrow roads wind between the hamlets on the slopes.
A Yujia map poster shows a very different kind of Chinese settlement from the dense grids of the big cities. The lines are organic and uneven, shaped by water and slope, and the town reads as a small concentration within a wide, intricate landscape. In black and white it looks like a detailed field drawing.

Winding roads
Roads leaving the town bend and switch back through the hills. They draw long curving lines that connect it to villages across the region.
Terraced slopes
Small fields and terraces cover the surrounding hillsides in irregular patches that follow the contours and give the outer map a fine, layered texture.
