The town stretches along level ground between slopes. Its long, narrow footprint stands out clearly against the empty terrain around it.

Zemljevid
Zhendong Map Poster & Print
Zhendong is a town in the northeastern part of Chongqing Municipality, a region of steep ridges, deep valleys and rivers flowing south toward the Yangtze. Flat land is scarce, so the built-up area follows the terrain. It stretches along a valley or a river instead of spreading out in a grid.
This is typical of settlements across the hills of eastern Sichuan and Chongqing. Towns grow along the few level corridors available, and farmland is cut into terraces on the slopes. On a map, this produces long, narrow street patterns, sharp road bends and small clusters of buildings strung along winding routes into the mountains.
A Zhendong map poster captures the relationship between the town and its terrain. The streets are few but purposeful. The roads that twist away from the town show the shape of the land more clearly than contour lines would. The result is a composition driven by geography, where every line has a reason.

Switchback roads
Mountain roads leave the town in tight bends and loops. Their expressive lines make the terrain visible without any shading.
River corridor
Small rivers and streams run along the valleys, setting where streets could be built and giving the composition a natural central axis.
