Valley corridor
The town stretches along a narrow valley, so its main streets run in parallel with the river and the road instead of spreading outwards.

Zhongzhai Map Poster & Print
Zhongzhai lies in the mountainous south of Gansu province, where the land breaks into steep ridges and deep valleys on the way toward Sichuan. Towns in this area can only grow along the valley floors, and on the map that is clear: the streets stretch out in a thin line beside a river and road, closely bordered by the slopes on both sides.
Because of this, the town's shape follows the landscape more than any plan. The main street runs with the valley, short lanes climb a little way up the hillsides, and farmland fills whatever flat or terraced ground is left. Past the town edge, the map quickly becomes almost empty, apart from mountain roads winding between villages.
A Zhongzhai map poster captures this long, narrow settlement and the heavy terrain that shapes it. The street pattern is compact and linear, and the space around it gives a strong feeling of the mountains. It is a personal map for people from the area rather than a well-known destination.

Hillside lanes
Short lanes climb a little way up the slopes from the valley floor, ending where the ground becomes too steep to build.
Mountain roads
Winding roads leave the valley and follow the terrain toward nearby villages, drawing loose curves across an otherwise empty frame.
