Arrecife Map Poster & Print
Arrecife takes its name from the Spanish word for reef, after the line of rocks and islets that shelters its waterfront. It has been the capital of Lanzarote since the nineteenth century, when it replaced inland Teguise, and its growth followed the harbour. From above the city is low and compact, with white-walled streets spreading back from a shoreline broken into small bays, jetties and rocky islets.
The most distinctive shape is the Charco de San Ginés, a tidal lagoon in the heart of the old town, ringed by houses and fishing boats. Offshore, the Castillo de San Gabriel sits on its islet, reached by a short causeway and bridge. Further north, the Castillo de San José, converted by César Manrique, houses a museum of contemporary art.
On an Arrecife map poster the coastline does most of the work. The irregular edge of reefs and harbour walls, the round lagoon and the tidy grid behind it make a composition that is both clearly urban and unmistakably island. Around the city, the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote is almost empty on the map, which makes the dense street pattern stand out even more.

Castillo de San Gabriel
This small fortress stands on an islet just off the centre, linked to the shore by a causeway and a short bridge across the water.
Reef-lined harbour
Rocky islets, breakwaters and jetties break the coastline into small bays, giving the city edge a fine, irregular outline on paper.

Një hartë me kuptim
Arrecife is often chosen by people who lived on Lanzarote for a season, returned there every year or grew up among its white streets. The harbour and lagoon make it recognisable at a glance, even without labels.
You can set your own title and subtitle, perhaps a year or a street, and keep the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles, from crisp Classic black and white to warm Sand, and order a matte print or download HD files for $9.
