Malygin Strait
A narrow passage separates the island from the northern tip of the Yamal Peninsula, its two facing shores giving the southern edge of the map a clean, deliberate line.

Bely Island Map Poster & Print
Bely Island lies in the Kara Sea just north of the Yamal Peninsula, separated from the mainland by the narrow Malygin Strait. Its name means White Island. It is low and almost entirely flat, and from above it forms a broad, rounded shape with a gently curving coast, without the cliffs or fjords of many Arctic islands.
The interior is tundra scattered with countless small lakes and ponds, which give the map a fine, speckled texture in place of roads or streets. A polar weather station operates on the island, but there is no town, and for most of the year the surrounding sea is covered in ice.
A Bely Island map poster is one of the most abstract subjects you could choose: a pale outline set in wide water, the slender strait along its southern edge, and inside the shoreline a scatter of lakes like drops of ink. It is a portrait of Arctic flatness and of distance.

Tundra lakes
Numerous small lakes and ponds are scattered across the flat interior, appearing on the poster as a fine, irregular speckle held within the outline.
Open Kara Sea
To the north the island faces the open Kara Sea, frozen for much of the year, which fills most of the frame and underlines how isolated this place is.
