El Campello stretches along the Costa Blanca just north of Alicante, and its map is defined by the coast. A long, gently curving shoreline runs from southwest to northeast, backed by a seafront promenade. Behind it, apartment blocks and streets pack into a band that narrows as the land climbs toward dry hills.
Near the old fishing quarter, a small rocky headland juts into the sea. This is L'Illeta dels Banyets, an archaeological site with remains going back thousands of years, and an old watchtower stands close by. On the map it is a small, distinct knuckle of land breaking the smooth line of beach, with the harbour tucked beside it.
