Kingston Map Poster & Print
Kingston stands at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, where the lake begins to funnel into the St. Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands. The Cataraqui River enters the harbour on the city's east side, and the old downtown grid sits on the shore beside it, with neighbourhoods fanning north and west along the lake. Wolfe Island lies across the water, linked by a free ferry.
Many of its public buildings and houses are built of local grey limestone, which earned it the name the Limestone City. Kingston was the first capital of the Province of Canada from 1841 to 1844, and Fort Henry still guards the harbour from the headland opposite. Queen's University and the Royal Military College are both here, and the Rideau Canal ends at the city after its journey from Ottawa.
A Kingston map poster highlights that meeting of water routes. The Cataraqui's mouth breaks the shoreline, the campus and old town sit tight against the lake, and the long shape of Wolfe Island fills the lower part of the frame. It is a composed, maritime image of a city older than Confederation.

Wolfe Island
The large, low island across the channel shapes the southern edge of the map, framing the city's harbour and marking the entrance to the St. Lawrence.
