Mladá Boleslav stands on a spur of high ground above the River Jizera in Central Bohemia, northeast of Prague. The old town and castle occupy the top of the spur, where the streets are short and irregular. Beyond them, the city extends onto the surrounding plateau in a mix of apartment blocks, family houses and wide industrial sites.
The town is the home of Škoda Auto. The company traces its roots to Laurin & Klement, a business that started here in the 1890s making bicycles before moving on to cars. The factory now takes up a large part of the town's footprint, and the Škoda Museum tells its story. The castle above the river dates back to the Middle Ages.
The Mladá Boleslav map poster shows two distinct parts of the town. The historic centre clings to its bluff above the curving Jizera, while the car works spreads out as a large, geometric block. Housing estates and ring roads fill the space in between.

The Jizera loops around the western side of the town. The river's curve outlines the old centre and adds a soft line to the lower edge of the map.
Car works
Škoda's plant covers a large rectangle of long halls and internal roads. It's the biggest single shape on the poster and a clear symbol of the town.
