The bay
A broad, gently curved bay forms the western edge of the map. Its smooth shoreline and the straight lines of the port piers give the composition a calm, defined frame.

Mossamedes Map Poster & Print
Mossamedes, officially Namibe, sits on a wide bay on Angola's southern Atlantic coast. From above, the shoreline draws a clean arc, and the town fills the flat land behind it in a tidy grid. Beyond the last blocks the street pattern thins quickly into open ground, because this is where the Namib Desert begins, and the map shows that boundary clearly.
The town was founded by the Portuguese in the 1840s and grew around its port and fishing industry. The older streets near the waterfront keep a regular colonial layout, and newer districts spread along the roads leading inland. To the north, the bed of the seasonal Bero River cuts a pale line through the plain, a green seam in an otherwise dry setting.
A Mossamedes map poster reduces all of this to a few strong elements: the curve of the bay, the port piers, the grid and the emptiness around it. The desert gives the composition a lot of white space, which suits a minimalist print well. Inland, the railway toward Lubango and the Serra da Leba escarpment connects the coast with the highlands.

Colonial grid
The older centre follows a regular pattern of straight streets near the waterfront, laid out in the nineteenth century and still readable as a neat block of lines on the map.
Desert margin
Streets stop abruptly where the Namib begins. The contrast between the dense town and the open land around it is one of the most striking things about the place from above.

Një hartë me kuptim
People who grew up on this coast, or worked in its port, often want something that shows the town as it really is: a small grid between ocean and desert. The map captures that balance without needing any decoration.
