Blue Lake crater
The largest of the crater lakes forms a deep, rounded shape south of the centre, ringed by a scenic drive. Its seasonal shift from grey-blue to vivid blue is the town's signature sight.

Mount Gambier Map Poster & Print
Mount Gambier sits on the Limestone Coast of South Australia, a few kilometres from the Victorian border, and its map is shaped by the dormant volcano that shares its name. The town grid runs neatly across flat ground to the north, then stops short at a cluster of crater lakes and rims on the southern edge. Few regional towns have such a clear natural boundary drawn directly into their street plan.
The best known of those craters holds the Blue Lake, which turns a strong cobalt colour each summer and supplies the town's drinking water. Beneath the streets the limestone is riddled with sinkholes, and several have been turned into sunken gardens, including one right in the centre of town. On paper these appear as small, sharply outlined hollows among ordinary suburban blocks.
A Mount Gambier map poster works best at a scale that keeps both the grid and the lakes in frame, so the relationship between them stays legible. In black and white the water becomes solid shapes, the crater rims show through the pattern of surrounding roads, and the pine plantation country beyond fades into open space at the edges of the sheet.

Sinkhole gardens
Collapsed limestone chambers such as the Umpherston Sinkhole and the Cave Garden appear as small enclosed pockets inside the street plan, a detail particular to this corner of the state.
Grid meets volcano
Straight residential streets run south until they meet the slopes and rims of the volcanic complex, giving the map an unusually clear edge between built town and natural landform.
