Ābu, better known as Mount Abu, is the only hill station in Rajasthan. It sits on a high plateau in the Aravalli Range near the Gujarat border. The approach roads climb from the plains in long switchbacks, which appear on the map as tight loops and hairpins before the land levels out. At the top, the town spreads across a rocky, forested landscape where the air is cooler.
Nakki Lake lies at the centre of the town, a small lake surrounded by hills and walking paths, and it is the natural focus of the map. Streets wind around its shores and branch into the hills, following the contours rather than any grid. Rocky outcrops and viewpoints dot the surroundings and give the plan an irregular shape.
Mount Abu is also known for the Dilwara Temples, a group of Jain temples famous for their intricate marble carving. Nearby Guru Shikhar is the highest point in the Aravallis.
