Atima is a municipality in the Santa Bárbara Department of western Honduras, in a region of steep, forested mountains. The town itself is small and compact, its streets laid out on the limited level ground available and then bending to follow the slopes. From above the hills dominate, with the built-up area appearing as a tight cluster in the landscape.
Santa Bárbara is one of the country's coffee-growing departments, and the mountains around Atima hold farms, forest and small settlements connected by rural roads. These roads twist along ridges and down into valleys, sometimes doubling back on themselves, and on the map they draw long, looping lines between the town and the villages of the municipality.
