Bailundo is a modest town in the Angolan interior, and its map is spare. A few main roads meet near the centre, where the street network is densest, and from there the blocks loosen into scattered plots and tracks. The overall shape is organic and follows the land more than any formal plan.
On the map, the edges of Bailundo matter as much as the centre. Paths lead out to farmland and small settlements, and the rural land around the town takes up much of the frame, crossed by a few lines of water and footpaths. The result is a composition with a lot of open space and only a few strong lines.
