Bārāsat Map Poster & Print
Bārāsat is the headquarters of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, north-east of central Kolkata within the wider metropolitan region. The land is flat and low, part of the Ganges delta, and water is never far away: ponds, tanks and small canals appear throughout the map. The town grew along major roads, and its streets branch out from these routes into dense residential neighbourhoods.
Jessore Road, one of the historic routes out of Kolkata toward the Bangladesh border, passes through the town, and Bārāsat has become an important junction for road and rail traffic in the district. Rapid growth has filled in much of the land between older settlements. As a result, the map mixes close-knit older lanes, newer housing and remaining patches of green and water.
A Bārāsat map poster offers a detailed view of a place that is often seen only as a commuter town. In black and white, the many ponds become small pale shapes scattered through the streets and the main roads form strong lines across the frame. Dense residential lanes fill the rest with the fine, intricate pattern typical of Bengal's towns.
