Bhauri is a small place in southern Rajasthan, in the part of the state where the Thar's dry plains give way to the first rises of the Aravalli range. Its map is modest. A few roads meet, a settlement core forms around them, and farm tracks lead outward into the surrounding fields.
The street pattern is informal and compact. Lanes curve around houses and plots rather than following a plan. Near the centre they gather tightly, and toward the edges they thin out into paths across agricultural land.
