Bislig lies on the eastern coast of Mindanao in Surigao del Sur, facing Bislig Bay and the Pacific beyond. The map shows a long coastline with small river mouths and inlets, and the city's streets gathered in several clusters near the shore. Inland, the land rises into forested hills, and roads thread between barangays spread across the lowlands.
For decades Bislig was known as the home of a large pulp and paper mill, one of the biggest industrial operations in the Philippines, which shaped the town's growth before it closed. The area is also known for Tinuy-an Falls, a wide, multi-tiered waterfall inland that is often called the Little Niagara of the Philippines.
A Bislig map poster balances land and water. The curve of the bay and the fine lines of the rivers give the composition its shape, while the scattered clusters of streets show how the city spreads along the coast rather than around a single centre.
