Bletchley is now part of Milton Keynes, but its layout is older than the new city's grid of roads and roundabouts. The town grew around a railway junction on the West Coast Main Line, and on a map the tracks run in a strong diagonal through its centre, with Victorian and interwar streets packed in close on either side.
To the east, the Roman line of Watling Street and the Grand Union Canal at Fenny Stratford add two more historic routes to the picture. In the other direction, the planned grid squares of Milton Keynes start to appear, with their wide spacing and landscaped borders.
Bletchley is best known for Bletchley Park, the country house and estate where codebreakers worked during the Second World War. A Bletchley map poster places that story in its real setting, a quiet estate beside a busy rail line on the edge of an ordinary market town.
