May River
The river curves along the town's southern edge. Its marsh-lined banks and side creeks give the poster its most fluid lines.

Bluffton Map Poster & Print
Bluffton sits in South Carolina's Lowcountry, near Hilton Head Island, on high ground above the May River. The name refers to that bluff. The historic district, known locally as Old Town, stands close to the water, and much of the town's identity comes from its relationship with the river and tidal marsh.
From above, the May River winds east toward the sea, and salt marsh and creeks reach deep into the land along its banks. Old Town's small grid of streets sits beside the river, while much larger planned communities, with looping roads and cul-de-sacs, spread across the land beyond.
The Church of the Cross, a Gothic Revival church, stands on the bluff overlooking the river and is one of the town's best-known landmarks. The May River is also known for its oysters. A Bluffton map poster shows the full range, from the old riverfront streets to the branching creeks and the newer growth inland.

Old Town grid
A compact historic street pattern sits close to the bluff and contrasts with the sprawling development farther inland.
Tidal creeks
Narrow marsh creeks branch inland from the river and create delicate, root-like shapes between the roads.
