Caxambu sits in a valley in the south of Minas Gerais, part of the region known as the Circuito das Águas. From above, the town is shaped by its terrain. Streets follow the valley floor and then bend up the surrounding slopes, so the street pattern looks irregular and close to the ground rather than laid out on a single plan.
At the centre is the Parque das Águas, a large green space built around the mineral springs that made the town known. On a map it shows as a calm open area inside a dense ring of blocks. The springs drew visitors from the nineteenth century onwards, and the town grew as a spa resort, with hotels and promenades set around the park.
A Caxambu map poster shows how the park anchors everything around it. Roads leave the centre and follow the hills outward, thinning as they reach the wooded high ground. The result is a compact, rounded composition, with one clear green heart and a web of lanes spreading in every direction.

Valley street pattern
Instead of following a grid, streets trace the contours of the valley. They curve along the lower ground and bend where the slopes rise, which gives the map a soft, organic texture.
Hillside edges
At its edges the town fades into the hills of southern Minas Gerais. Dense blocks give way to scattered roads, and the map ends in a wide, quiet margin.
