Former hospital grounds
The old state hospital campus appears as a wide area of curving drives and open ground, a layout quite unlike the surrounding streets and now home to courts, education and sport.

Mapa
Central Islip Map Poster & Print
Central Islip sits near the middle of Long Island in the Town of Islip, Suffolk County, on the flat ground typical of the island's interior. Its map is a patchwork of suburban street grids and curving subdivisions, cut through by the Long Island Rail Road, which stops here on the Ronkonkoma Branch, and by the wide roads that link it to the rest of the island.
The most distinctive part of the plan is the land once occupied by the Central Islip State Hospital, a large psychiatric institution that operated for about a century. Much of that campus has since been redeveloped, and today it holds a federal courthouse, a law school and a baseball stadium, each with its own looping drives and generous open space.
Those large institutional shapes sit beside smaller residential blocks, giving the area a varied texture from above. A Central Islip map poster shows how one community holds both ordinary neighbourhood streets and the unusual footprint of a former hospital town, set within the level interior of Long Island.

The ballpark
The stadium of the Long Island Ducks, the local professional baseball team, forms a neat geometric shape among parking areas and green space on the former campus.
Ronkonkoma Branch
The Long Island Rail Road crosses the hamlet in a long straight line, with the station area marking a quiet centre in an otherwise evenly spread suburban plan.

Zašto Central Islip
Mapa koja nešto znači
Central Islip is where many Long Island families have put down roots, and where others come for court days, law school or summer ball games. A map of the place captures a particular chapter of life with precision rather than nostalgia.
