Ciriè lies on the plain north of Turin, where the Lanzo valleys open out towards the city. The map shows a historic centre of close-set streets and irregular blocks, surrounded by later residential districts and crossed by the railway that runs from Turin up towards the mountains. Nearby, the Stura di Lanzo river and its wide gravel bed form a strong natural line.
The town has medieval roots and a long connection with the D'Oria family, whose palazzo still stands in the centre. Today Ciriè is a local centre for the surrounding communities and a starting point for people heading up into the Valli di Lanzo, while remaining closely tied to Turin through its road and rail links.
