Coremas lies in the sertão of Paraíba, the dry interior of Brazil's Northeast. Its best-known feature is the Coremas–Mãe d'Água reservoir system on the Piancó River, one of the largest bodies of water in the state. On a map, the lake's irregular outline and branching arms dominate everything around it.
The town itself is small and compact, a grid of streets set near the dam. Roads run out across open, semi-arid land where settlement is sparse. In a region where water is scarce for much of the year, a reservoir of this size shapes farming, fishing and daily life, and on the print it is the main event.
