The namesake lake
The lake appears as a clean, rounded shape surrounded by lakeside roads and homes. It is the visual anchor of any map of the town and gives the poster a natural focal point.

Mapa
Crystal Lake Map Poster & Print
Crystal Lake takes its name from the body of water inside its limits, and on a map the lake is the first thing you notice: a smooth, rounded shape on a background of curving residential streets. Further from the water the streets loosen into cul-de-sacs, school grounds and open green space, typical of the towns in McHenry County northwest of Chicago.
A Metra commuter line runs diagonally through the city, and the older downtown sits beside it in a compact block of short, regular streets. That line has shaped the town for generations, tying it to Chicago while the neighbourhoods kept spreading outward. Arterial roads leave the centre and head out toward farmland and the neighbouring towns.
A Crystal Lake map poster shows how clearly one feature can organise a whole town. The water gives the composition a calm centre, the rail line gives it a strong diagonal, and the looser suburban pattern fills the rest of the frame with fine, even texture. In black and white the lake reads as a solid, quiet shape.

Commuter rail diagonal
The Metra line to Chicago cuts across the grid at an angle, with the historic downtown gathered close beside it. It is the town's oldest organising line.
Curving suburban streets
Away from the centre, loops, crescents and cul-de-sacs replace the straight blocks, creating a soft, organic pattern that contrasts with the rail line and main roads.
