Dashitou lies in eastern Jilin province, in the hilly, forested country of the Dunhua area. From above, the town is a long, narrow strip of streets in a valley. It is shaped by the terrain and by the transport lines that follow the valley floor. Wooded slopes rise on both sides, and farmland fills the flatter ground nearby.
The region is part of the wider Changbai Mountains landscape, known for its forests, cold winters and timber-related industry. Towns like Dashitou grew around rail and road links through the hills, serving the surrounding forestry and farming areas. The result is a practical, linear settlement set within a large natural landscape.
