Mapa
Decatur Map Poster & Print
Decatur lies on the south bank of the Tennessee River in north Alabama, where the river widens into Wheeler Lake. From above, the water is the defining feature: a broad band crossing the top of the map, with long highway and rail bridges crossing it toward the north. Wetlands and backwaters spread along the river's edges.
The town's historic core sits near the river. Two historic districts, Old Decatur and Albany, keep grids of older streets lined with Victorian houses. Industry has grown along the waterfront, and newer suburban neighbourhoods spread south and west in looser, curving patterns.
A Decatur map poster shows the city's relationship with the river. Just east of town, the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge protects wide wetlands that are known for large gatherings of wintering sandhill cranes. The mix of water, bridges and grids makes a rich and balanced composition.
