Eyvān is a town in Ilam Province in western Iran, in the folded ranges of the Zagros Mountains, not far from the border with Iraq. From above, the town fills a valley floor, its streets spreading between the slopes. Ridges rise on either side, and roads leave the town following the lines of the valleys.
The Zagros shapes everything about this map. The mountains here run in long parallel folds, and settlements, roads and farmland occupy the lower ground between them.
