Tilted downtown
Downtown streets follow the angle of the railway rather than the compass. As a result the old centre appears as a rotated block of grid inside the larger north-south pattern.

Mapa
Fresno Map Poster & Print
Fresno lies near the geographic centre of California in the San Joaquin Valley, on almost perfectly flat land. From above, that flatness shows as a vast grid of main roads spaced at regular intervals, running north-south and east-west for miles. Irrigation canals cut across the grid in long diagonal and curving lines, a reminder of the farmland that still surrounds the city.
The oldest part of town breaks the pattern. Downtown was laid out along the railway, so its streets sit at a diagonal to the surrounding grid and form a tilted rectangle in the middle of the map. Freeways 99, 41 and 180 converge nearby. To the north, the city ends at the bluffs of the San Joaquin River.
Fresno is known as the centre of one of the most productive farming regions in the United States, and as a gateway to Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks. A Fresno map poster captures a very American kind of city, where surveyors and railways set the geometry and the detail lies in how neighbourhoods fill the squares.

Mile-grid avenues
Major roads run at regular one-mile spacing across the valley floor. They divide the city into large, even squares filled with neighbourhoods, schools and parks.
San Joaquin River edge
The northern limit of the city follows the San Joaquin River. Its winding course and bluffs are the only strong natural line on an otherwise flat and regular map.

Zašto Fresno
Mapa koja nešto znači
Fresno maps tend to go to people with deep family ties to the valley, to university graduates and to those who moved away but still think of the grid as home. Straight lines and one angled downtown make the city instantly recognisable to anyone who knows it.
You can set the title, add a subtitle with a year or the street you lived on, and edit the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, then download the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
