Mapa
Greytown Map Poster & Print
Greytown lies in the Umvoti valley in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands, and it is named after Sir George Grey, a nineteenth-century colonial governor. The town has an orderly colonial layout of straight streets and rectangular blocks, set on gently rising ground with the river nearby.
The surrounding district is farming and forestry country. Plantations, fields and scattered homesteads cover the rolling hills. From above, the regular town grid contrasts sharply with the irregular patchwork of the land around it, and roads lead off toward neighbouring towns in the midlands.
A Greytown map poster shows that contrast clearly. A neat block of streets sits in the middle, the river line runs close by, and wide open country fills the rest of the frame. It is an understated, balanced composition that suits a town whose shape has stayed steady over many years.

Umvoti valley
The river and its valley run near the town, adding a natural curve to a composition otherwise ruled by straight lines.
Farmland patchwork
Fields and plantations cover the rolling land beyond the grid. Their irregular edges soften the frame around the town.
