The cathedral square
The Domplatz forms a long open space on the hill, with the cathedral at one end and the Liebfrauenkirche at the other, and it is the clearest shape on the map.

Mapa
Halberstadt Map Poster & Print
Halberstadt lies in Saxony-Anhalt, north of the Harz mountains. Its centre grew around the cathedral hill, where the Gothic cathedral of St Stephen and St Sixtus faces the Liebfrauenkirche across a long open square. From above, this ridge stands out clearly, with the older streets gathered around it and later districts spreading outward along roads and the railway line.
Much of the old town was destroyed by bombing in April 1945, and the centre combines surviving timber-framed houses with rebuilt and newer buildings. Halberstadt is also known for an unusual performance: in the Burchardi church, an organ is playing John Cage's piece As Slow As Possible, planned to last 639 years, with each chord change drawing visitors.
A Halberstadt map poster places the cathedral square at the heart of the composition, framed by the curving streets of the old centre. The Holtemme river and its green corridor pass through the town, and the grid of later districts fills the rest of the frame. It is a map with a strong centre and a long story.

A 639-year concert
In the Burchardi church an organ performance of John Cage's As Slow As Possible began in 2001, and chord changes happen only every few months or years.
The Holtemme
A small river runs through the town, bordered by green strips and paths, adding a soft line that crosses the street pattern from one side to the other.
