Ridge-following streets
Residential roads wind along the slopes of long parallel ridges. They produce layered, flowing patterns that make the map unusually detailed and textured from edge to edge.

Mapa
Hoover Map Poster & Print
Hoover is one of the largest suburbs of Birmingham, spreading south and west of the city across the ridges and valleys of central Alabama. Terrain dominates its map. Long, parallel ridges run northeast to southwest. Residential streets wind along their slopes in loops and cul-de-sacs, while the major roads follow the valleys between them.
The city was incorporated in 1967 and named after William H. Hoover, the founder of an insurance company based in the area. It grew quickly in the following decades. Today it includes the Riverchase Galleria, one of the largest shopping centres in the Southeast, and the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, which hosts college baseball tournaments. Interstate 459 and US 31 carry traffic through the city.
A Hoover map poster turns the topography into a pattern. Curving neighbourhood streets trace the contours of the ridges, the interstate cuts a firm line through the landscape, and lakes and golf courses add open space. The Cahaba River along the eastern side adds another soft line. It is an intricate portrait of a suburb shaped more by hills than by any grid.

Interstate 459
The interstate sweeps through the city in a long arc, and its interchanges near the Galleria form tight knots of ramps and roads.
Lakes and golf courses
Many small lakes, golf courses and parks open up the dense residential fabric. They appear as calm white spaces among the winding streets.
