Ihosy is the capital of the Ihorombe region in southern Madagascar. It stands at a key junction where the RN7, the main road between Antananarivo and Toliara, meets the road heading southeast toward Taolagnaro. The Ihosy River passes by the town, and the surrounding land is part of the Horombe plateau, a vast area of grassland used for cattle grazing.
