Inami is a town in the Kako district of Hyōgo, just inland from the Seto Inland Sea coast near Kakogawa. The land is gently rolling, and from above it looks like a patchwork. Rice paddies, clusters of houses and small woods alternate across the landscape. The roads wind between them rather than forming a single town grid.
The most distinctive feature of the Harima area is its irrigation reservoirs. Hundreds of small ponds were built over centuries to store water for the rice fields in a relatively dry climate. On a map of Inami they appear as scattered shapes of water across the farmland, some round, some angular, each with its own outline.
