Dense old centre
At the heart of town, narrow lanes run close together between houses and shops, a fine, irregular texture that stands out against the open surroundings.

Mapa
Jhālu Map Poster
Jhālu lies in the Bijnor district of western Uttar Pradesh, on the fertile plain between the Ganges and the foothills further north. The land here is almost entirely flat and intensively farmed, and the town appears on the map as a dense cluster of streets set within a wide sweep of fields.
The street pattern is tight and irregular at the centre, where lanes wind between closely built houses and markets, and gradually loosens towards the edges. Roads leave town in several directions towards nearby villages and larger centres in the district, and they give the composition its main lines.
Like many towns in the region, Jhālu grew as a local market for the farming land around it. A Jhālu map poster shows that relationship: the close-knit centre, the roads fanning out to the villages and the flat, open plain that surrounds it on every side.

Roads to the villages
Several roads leave the town towards neighbouring villages and district centres, radiating from the core like spokes.
Farmland plain
Flat, intensively cultivated fields surround the town. On the print they leave clear white space that sets off the dense centre.
