Karahrūd sits in Markazi Province in central Iran, a short distance from Arak, the provincial capital. On a map it reads as a modest, tightly drawn settlement where residential blocks press close together and a few longer roads run across them. The street pattern is dense but not chaotic. The land around the town frames it clearly. To one side the high, open plain around Arak stretches out flat and broad. Connecting roads leave the built-up area and cross the plain toward Arak. They are the strongest straight lines on the sheet and tie the small town to its much larger neighbour.
