The historic grid
The centre's straight streets and even blocks reflect the town plan drawn up after its founding. The pattern leads down to the riverbank in clear, parallel lines.

Mapa
Kherson Map Poster & Print
Kherson was founded in 1778 on the lower Dnipro, not far from where the river reaches the Black Sea, and it quickly became a shipbuilding town. On the map, the centre is still a regular grid of long, straight streets running parallel to the river and down to it. The layout was drawn up in the city's early decades and remains easy to read today.
Opposite the city, the Dnipro breaks up into a wide maze of channels, islands, reed beds and backwaters. On the page, it looks like a lace-like band of water stretching across the sheet. That contrast between the orderly streets on one bank and the unruly river country on the other defines the city's shape.
The war has hit Kherson hard, and its bridges and riverfront have been at the centre of recent events. A Kherson map poster shows the city as its streets and river lay it out, and many people keep one as a way of staying connected to it.

Dnipro delta
Across from the city, the river splits into countless channels and islands. It is the most intricate part of the map and fills a large share of the poster.
The riverfront
The embankment, port areas and docks line the city's edge along the Dnipro. They form the long seam where the tidy street grid meets the water.
