La Felguera is one of the main towns of the municipality of Langreo, in the Nalón valley of central Asturias. In the nineteenth century it became a centre of the Asturian steel and coal industry. Much of its present shape comes from that period, when housing, works and railways were packed into the narrow valley.
On a map the town sits along the Nalón River, which curves through the valley with streets and blocks on both banks. Roads and rail lines follow the water, and bridges link the two sides. The town extends until the slopes rise steeply into green hillsides that are largely unbuilt.
