Laur is a municipality in eastern Nueva Ecija, the province often called the rice granary of the Philippines. The town centre is small, a compact cluster of streets around the poblacion, with barangays spread across the land around it. On a map, the built area is only a small part of the picture. Most of the frame is farmland, marked by field boundaries and irrigation lines.
To the east, the land starts rising toward the foothills of the Sierra Madre, and the regular pattern of paddies gives way to more irregular shapes, with streams and roads following the terrain. Part of the upland is taken up by Fort Magsaysay, a large military reservation shared with neighbouring Palayan. On the map it shows as broad, lightly marked ground.
The road pattern is simple: a main route through the poblacion and smaller lanes leading out to farms and barangays.
