Mapa
Leuven Map Poster & Print
Leuven, in Flemish Brabant east of Brussels, is a city whose map is defined by its ring. A boulevard follows the line of the fourteenth-century walls, forming a near-circle around the historic centre, while the Dijle runs through it from south to north. Inside, irregular medieval streets converge on the Grote Markt; outside, roads and suburbs radiate in every direction.
Leuven is home to KU Leuven, founded in 1425 and one of the oldest universities in Europe, whose colleges, libraries and halls are spread throughout the city. The Gothic town hall on the Grote Markt is among the most elaborate in Belgium, and the Groot Begijnhof, a quiet quarter of brick houses along the Dijle, is listed by UNESCO.
A Leuven map poster makes the ring the frame of the composition. The tangle of old streets, the curving river with its begijnhof, the Oude Markt and the more regular later quarters all sit within that loop, while the canal basin of the Vaartkom reaches out to the north. Few cities of this size have such a legible shape.

Dijle and Begijnhof
The Dijle splits into narrow channels in the south of the centre, threading through the Groot Begijnhof, whose small blocks and lanes form a distinct pattern.
Converging old streets
Medieval streets run inward from the old gates to the Grote Markt and Oude Markt, giving the centre a spoked, slightly irregular structure.
