The Dinkel valley
The Dinkel meanders through the municipality in tight curves, a rare natural river line in the Netherlands, and draws the most expressive shape on the whole map.

Mapa
Losser Map Poster & Print
Losser sits at the eastern edge of Overijssel, close enough to the German border that the frontier line often appears on the map as a thin dashed stroke just beyond the last fields. The town has a small, dense centre. Around it the streets thin out quickly into a looser pattern of farm roads, hedged plots and small woods, typical of the Twente countryside.
The Dinkel is the natural line that gives the area its character. This small river winds north through the municipality in loops and oxbows, very different from the straight drainage ditches seen in much of the Netherlands. Along its banks the land is wooded and slightly undulating, and the heath and sand landscapes nearby feel almost unexpectedly hilly for the Dutch east.
A Losser map poster shows a place on the scale of a village rather than a city. It has one clear centre, a handful of roads leading out towards Enschede, the German side and the neighbouring villages, and a great deal of open ground between them. In black and white, the contrast between the knotted town streets and the free-flowing river is especially clear.

Border setting
The German frontier runs just east of town, so roads toward Gronau and Bad Bentheim cross it with no visible break, while the landscape carries on unchanged.
Twente field pattern
Beyond the centre, small irregular fields, farm lanes and patches of woodland form the older, more organic pattern of eastern Overijssel.
