Mamun lies in the far north of Punjab, next to Pathankot, near the point where Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir come together. The land here begins to rise out of the flat plains, and the map records that change: a regular pattern of roads to the south, and broken, rising ground to the north.
The town is best known for Mamun Cantonment, one of the largest military cantonments in Asia.
