Mango lies on the northern bank of the Subarnarekha River in eastern Jharkhand, and it forms part of the Jamshedpur urban area. The river is the defining feature of its map. The main part of Jamshedpur and its steel works lie to the south, while Mango's streets spread out north of the water and bridges carry the traffic between the two.
Compared with the planned company town across the river, Mango's pattern is more informal. Main roads run north toward the national highway and rural Jharkhand, and a denser mesh of lanes fills the ground between them. Low hills and patches of green on the edges show that the forested plateau of the Chota Nagpur region is never far away.
